EPA Approves CA plan for phasing out diesel trucks EPA approves California rules phasing out diesel trucks. The decision allows California to require truck manufacturers to sell an increasing percentage of zero-emission trucks over the next couple of decades. Depending on the class of truck, zero-emission ones will need to make up 40% to 75% of sales by 2035. The Environmental Protection Agency usually sets standards for tailpipe emissions, but California has been granted waivers to impose its own rules.
