Martello joins VCM Martello Launches First UK Carbon Credit to Challenge US Dominated $7.4 bn Global VCM Markets April 13, 2023 04:30 AM Eastern Daylight Time LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Martello, a UK-based capital transition firm, enters the global carbon markets with its first issuance of 32,000 carbon credits, it expects to trade at £30 per unit. Since 2021 the voluntary carbon markets (VCMS), where companies go to buy their credits to meet net zero, have jumped in size by 74% and are valued at $7.4bn.

Carbon Offsets, Illustrated | The Nature Conservancy Before purchasing carbon credits, companies should first invest in the technological innovations, improved management practices, and asset turnover needed to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from their business operations. Once companies have reduced their greenhouses gases as much as feasible, they can use carbon credits to offset their emissions that remain and thus make more rapid climate progress. Projects should be verified for these criteria:

  • Additionality

  • Permanence

  • Leakage

  • Safeguards
